Has anyone's SS teacher agreed to a weekly phone call?

We get a weekly newsletter which is nice but I was wondering if anyone gets the oppurtunity to actually speak with their child's teacher on a weekly basis.

No, we get a weekly newsletter, and we have a home-school book. Having said that, I took DD1 in today rather than letting her go on the minibus, because I was worried about her, and they were very happy to have a chat.

Ds's teacher has often phoned just for a chat if I haven't been able to make it to an IEP meeting or something, and she makes a point of making time for a natter on other occasions. For example, yesterday was harvest assembly and she 'signed' me across the hall to see if I wanted to go back to the classroom afterwards for a cuppa, so I did and got to meet another couple of parents too, which was nice.

I've asked her to phone other times as well and she always has (and previous teachers have too) so I think she would do it more often if I requested it. I'd say it couldn't hurt to ask!

The other thing we have, NappyAddict, is a Fortnightly coffee morning for parents. Sometimes they have a speaker (last one was sensory issues - really interesting) but other times are just coffee and a chat.

I am in fairly regular email contact with ds' teacher - it really helps us stay on track.

My DD is in an autism SRP attatched to a MS school. We have a home school book, and we can phone anytime. Normally get to talk to one of the SRP staff immediately, if not then one gets back to us within the hour normally. They are really good at communicating with us and making us feel involved, as we dont do the drop off and pick up.

lougle Is that with the class teacher as well?

devientenigma Are weekly phone calls and monthly meetings standard for all children in your child's class or just ones that are having problems?

Nappyaddict, no, that is with the Senior Teacher for the school, plus any speaker.

Did you manage to get a special school place afterall, Nappyaddict? Smile I know you were saying that the SS were all full.

nappyaddict · 21/10/2010 23:15

There were loads of children without places so they've had to add extra classes :)
