Having a crap few days here, had to fill in ds's DLA form and as he is sixteen it's an adult one which is even more inappropriate than the child's one would have been.
He's had an awful few days at school handled brilliantly by the unit but caused in the most part to the mainstream staff being insensitive at best and ignorant at worst.
Today is show and tell at dd's school and she couldn't be persuaded to take anything that wasn't precious to her.I had to stop her taking in a little figure that she carries constantly because she'd become hysterical and self harm if it was lost or stolen or touched by somebody else. Then I had to say no to the alternative a piece of nylon thread that she stims with because the other kids would take the piss out of her Sad.
I'm usually so positive but today I want to sit and cry and rant about the unfairness of it all.

i know what you mean, a few weeks ago dd3s class (reception) were making a display of what they want to be when they grow up. It all went completely over her head, we're still working on now/next, understanding future is a looonnnngggggg way off, never mind the fact she's non verbal.

Sodding show and tell, always causes trouble. Same with book week, own clothes day etc. It wouldn't be so bad if it was 'only' the asd dc it wound up... but when 25% of the class is struggling with being messed around, what chance do our dc have of being coaxed through it?

Those DLA forms are enough to make anyone feel down, at the best of times. Contending with those bloody forms when you other stuff going on too, is a nightmare. You should just be able to tick a box, saying circumstances are the same.

Have a cry and a rant, get it off your chest then im sure you will be back to your positive self in no time.
