Ds1 4.2 started in reception in september in ms with a statement which is just basically speech. He loves school and has settled in very well and is doing brilliantly. His teacher has said he already knows most of what is being taught and is starting to play with the other children etc. We choose the school he is at because it has a speech unit and we did want him to go to that. As it happened the unit was full and I wasn't that keen. Anyway both the school and i felt he needed more help with his speech and the speech unit was the best place for him. So i wrote at the end of september asking his statement to be amended to the unit expecting to have to go to tribunal as the unit is full. Last week I was told he is being offered a place at the unit. Today i have received confirmation that as the unit is full the school will have to receive extra funding for the extra staff and that has all gone through for him to start after half term. I cant not belive how smoothly it has gone, 2 phone calls and 2 letters!!! The school have been brillant as well trying to get him in the unit.
