Luuk had his talking xray done yesterday(Velopharyngeal Investigation). It showed that his palate is VERY short and his muscles are very far forward.
It is looking very likely that he will require surgery to elongate his palate in order to help his speech. They said it was quite lucky he doesn't eat or drink orally as he would have been having lots of difficulty.
Has anyone had this done or know anything about it?
My big fear is that Luuk vomits very easily at the best of times and his gag reflex is very hypersensitive. Having a runny nose is enough to make him gag/vomit. I'm a bit worried that if they elongate his palate that the sensation will lead to loads of vomiting and can see a fundo being required or jej feeding just to keep his feed in....... feeling a bit nervous at the thought. We've really only gotten to a stage where his feed is going really well.
