Please excuse the rant but have had a bit of a set back on the statement front today.

We were assessed for a statement for DD1 (3.9), pead, school, SALT etc all totally behind us.

Proposed statement arrived last week- looked too good to be true- 15 hours of !:1 support per week (FT as only attends pre-school in the mornings), weekly SALT input at school- just what we asked for.

School called LEA today to ask how it works with funding the 1:1 etc. LEA replied that because it is an independent pre-school there is no obligation for the LEA to fund the support.

WTF is the point of having a statement if it then doesn't give you anything at all.

School (I think rightly) responded that that is not acceptable/ is discriminatory and that they are not going to fund the additional support or jeopardise the attention that the other children receive by diverting current TA for DD1.

It actually says something along the lines of "normally school would be accepted to meet this through own resources but given the extent of DD1 difficulty additional support in form of SALT and TA will be provided".

Has anyone else had this- what is the deal with who funds it etc etc. Surely, we are saving them ££ by paying the fees etc for the pre-school ourselves?!

but i LOVE her school, her teacher has just been on a Makaton course, and the other children are so nice (and the mums supportive)- i'd be gutted to move her (and maybe cutting off her nose just to spite the LEA- not that they don't deserve it)...
DD1 runs to school every day with the biggest grin and she hated her last nursery (crying limpet every time!)

Grr...usually, the deal is that they don't fund the fees but will fund the support as it would cost the same wherever she goes! MP letter, I think.

negligentmummy · 12/10/2010 20:17

that's what I thought would happen!!
Why isn't that happening??
I'm not asking them to pay the fees but there is no way we can pay for the support and the fees!

Give me sleep is right, the LA should be paying for the extra support as it is their recommendation. Get in touch with your local parent partnership to see if they can help. I will have a scour through my sen code of practice and see what I can find for you.

If SALT and paed back you, a Tribunal will be a doddle.
