Any mums out there from Bexley or surrounding areas?
my son (10) has been dignosed a year ago with ASD. Long before then I have tried and tested diets, learning strategies and a million ways to maintain him being happy.
He is a happy child, but very sensitive (literaly and non-literally) School is a tough place to be in his shoes sometimes. I worry that school is not the right place to educate him, although he has always been.
Having a teaching degree myself, and knowing him so well, it has always been a plan for me to home school him, although two factors have always stopped me; Money! and him missing out on the social interaction (the good stuff!).
I instead tutor privately and although I still work loads with my own children, often think how much good i could do with my own son if i had him in the day and had the whole day to teach and support him...oh the dream!
This maybe naive or stupid of me but is there any way like minded people in Bexley can do this together? I visited a private school recently (son is moving to secondary school next year - gulp)and the classes only had 5 or 6 children in each class. At £880 a month for this privalige couldnt mums (that know AS/ASD kids!) have one day off work a week and share a schooling systym?
I.e small classes, expertise teaching (by this i mean be expertise what we mums of asd kids know! and im sure there are hundreds of mums who have knowledge, talents and skills they could share), groups of kids that dont want to play with eachother all the time and yet dont get any stick. Oh and for us to be able to afford it (haven't QUITE worked that bit out yet...any ideas?)
Please reply and tell me if you think im crazy but im really excited - i think it could happen!
