DD1 (4.9 with brain malformation) has just started at special school, and overheard a conversation with my Mum today (well, she was sat next to me)

DD1 said "Mum, what's a 'special school'?"

What would you have said? (I'll tell you what I said after I know what you would have said).

oh and my mum would have said 'a school for special children', i hate it when people call our children special as all children are special.

Good.

Well, DD1 asked, and my Mum automatically said "It's a school for special children", so I said

"No, it isn't, DD1. It's a school for children who need extra help. Some children need more help than other children so they go to a school which has more teachers, so they get more help." Then DD1 said "and I don't know what to do?" so I said "That's right. You sometimes don't know what to do, so there are more teachers to help you know what to do.."

It was right to tell her, wasn't it? I hate the thought of everyone else knowing and her not Sad

Well, thank the Lord for ADHD traits/comprehension delays. Despite appearing to be taking it all in, I just said to DD1 "DD1, did you understand what I said about Special Schools?" She said "Yes!" "What, DD1?" "WAIT!!" She has totally forgotten the conversation, and thinks Special school means she has to WAIT!! to go... Grin
