Finally got that meeting with SENco and I'm not overly impressed

I have never heard someone come up with so many problems on how to overcome basic issues for ds... When the answers are very very simple.

He started the meeting with a completely different agenda that why we were there.. Announcing this to the team in the room.. Wanted to invite ds into the meeting and kept saying he didn't see any issues..but was talking about issues and not recognising them.

( I did point out that he was doing this )

Dh and I were quite shocked.

However.. I am quite experienced these days.. So I corrected everyone as to why we where there.. Handed out an agenda for the meeting.. Bt who attended was a fantastic help :) and clarified what dh and I were saying. And I believe I gently put SENco in his place.

Oh and we got all the provisions put in place that we wanted , with a review for a couple of weeks time.

Ds is going to be okay!

I wanted to post this because had I not had a clear agenda and in this meeting a bit of backing.. Dh and could easily have been railroaded..

Guys please please take in bullet points of how you need this type of meeting to run... Write notes and then clarify in writing what has been proposed.. And book a follow up at that meeting for review.

Absolutely star! Would I pay for a consultation and expect the agenda to be changed to suit the person I'm paying.. Or do I expect a proper service.

not saying at all this is how all SENcos work.. Our last one was fab.. This one.. Well ... Needs a bit of training!

don't ever be afraid or think it rude and shy away from bringing the meeting back on track..
Bullet point , use examples if need be, take as many handouts of your agenda as there are people in the meeting and a spare.
