Basically she states that DS has no ASD traits - then goes on to say that she observed him talking to himself, running round in circles and twirling around and around!!
DS has an ASD diagnosis (amongst others) now, no thanks to the LEA or school but basically thats why the LEA have been messing us about regarding a statement because of this report by someone who has no clue!!

Oh, she will be so embarrassed to have that on her file, with an ASD dx following!!

ShadeofViolet · 02/09/2010 15:51

How can she say in one breath he doesnt have any ASD traits, then list three traits!

Some people really dont have a clue. The sad thing is that these are the people that are supposed to know.

My friend just found a fourth one when he is using self talk to try and work out which side of the paper to use when he was told to write his name on the non shiny side of the paper and a fifth one was when he didn't understand what junk food was and had to have it explained to him in terms of healthy and unhealthy food.
The LEA officer has basically been saying "nah he doesn't have ASD for months" then it emerged that he had this report which he didn't tell me about at the time which says he doesn't have ASD traits when its obvious from her blinking observations that he does at least I know why now. Scarier still the LEA officer used to work in a special school with a ASD unit. 6 months of my childs life gone!!
Yet another thing to add to the LEAs/schools incompetences and the complaints to do list!!

what are this teacher's qualifications in ASD? Can you ask for another professional to observe?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/09/2010 08:19

I did not think such people were at all qualified to make such pronouncements (i.e no asd traits) in the first place!.

I would be writing a stiff letter of complaint to this person!.

wasuup3000 · 04/09/2010 13:44

I will be! Just got his ADOS report in the post his score for communication and social interaction alone is 14!! Above the Autism cut off never mind the ASD one!

How nice for the children that she is able to 'fix' them.Hmm

wasuup3000 · 04/09/2010 20:10

I have a screen shot saved. Now who shall I share this screen shot with - the chief exec of children's services, the local MP, Dept of Education?

I wouldn't do that - she could lose her job! Maybe post a comment?
