I run The West London Children's Occupational Therapy Practice, an independent children's Occupational Therapy practice based in Chiswick. We offer family centred occupational therapy assessment and intervention to babies, children and young people from birth to 16 years.
I am also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner and have recently introduced Kinesio taping as an intervention that the practice is able to offer. Kinesio Tex Taping® is a new and effective treatment that can be used with the paediatric population. Kinesio Tex can be used to facilitate movement patterns and muscle use, increase stability, and improve alignment and function. I am looking for two families with a child who has Hemiplegia, one with a child under 18 months and one with a child between 18 months and 3 years, who would be happy to receive a block of KinesioTex Taping, specifically aimed at developing hand and arm strength, range of movement and functional ability. An initial assessment of hand and arm function will be completed then an appropriate taping programme devised.
There will be no charge as this is a case study, it will however require a commitment from the families to attend the practice for twice weekly appointments to apply the tape, over a 4 week period. The initial appointment will last approximately 30 minutes to allow assessment time, following appointments will last approximately 15 minutes.
The families will be happy to act as a case study for The West London Children's Occupational Therapy Practice to present the effectiveness of this intervention. They will be asked to keep a record of the progress that the child makes and a personal account of how they have found the intervention. The case studies will then be used on the West London Children's OT website to offer information to families on what to expect from Kinesio Tex Taping. All personal details will remain completely confidential.
