hi there,

not sure this is the right forum but hopefully I can get some advise here:

DD is 2.5 years old and (as I find) a bit behind in her language: she says around 200 words but does not (yet) link them together. she understands instructions but one thing irritates me a lot: we do not get responses to yes/no questions from her. Non of her friends is like that. I mentioned it to HV but she is not worried (she is never worried about anything).

Do you think this is something to worry about? Any ideas how to help her with yes/no questions?

Maybe worth mentioning that she has trouble with glue ear and her hearing is not great (but not too bad either) and she grows up bilingual... but I don't think this should explain the lack of yes/no answers.

thanks,
elif

DD is 4.4 Id be overjoyed if she had 200 words.
Instead she only has around 7 and thats only happened recently.

Im sure your dc is doing well and great that they are bilingual.

DS is bilingual and doesn't generally use yes and no. I'm 90% certain he's NT. HOWEVER, his older sister is somewhere on the autism spectrum and I don't know how much of his speech quirks are a. due to English being the minority language around here and b. being influenced by his sister. She can now (age 6) use yes and no when prompted, as can he, but it doesn't seem to come naturally to either of them. He also (just turned 3) reverses his pronouns. However, in other ways seems thoroughly NT: good play skills, eye contact, communication- not like his sister at the same age. Interestingly, when playing out little scenarios with his toys his speech is pretty much perfect, doesn't reverse pronouns and uses yes and no correctly.
So, don't know WHY it happens...but DS is just the same!

DD did not have 200 words by 2y6m... ok, maybe she did, but they were mostly unintelligble so I couldn't be sure about it. She's very NT and bright, and didn't even need SALT in the end.
