School transport and statements

Our LA has just announced its proposed cuts and have included anything discretionary - which means unless it is in a statement, home to school transport is not going to be provided any more for under 5's or over 16's with SEN.

So if anyone has a statement review coming up make sure the transport is on the statement and be alert to LA seeking to remove it!

Riven I think they have a statutory duty for 5-16 its either side of that age group its discretionary so you should be fine (for now)

phew ds just made the cut he is 5 now

surely if school is now from 4 - 18, it has to be the same for sn?
so a statement has to cover that time

roundthebend4 · 28/07/2010 11:44

Yeah maybe it be 18 now for those that are younger. But they could wiggle out as school not compulsary to term after there 5

Was arguement I used when moved and they wanted put ds back into ms to place in speech unit but because he was not 5 to July they had to hold of so ds be starting straight into unit

so I won't panic yet.
dd has to have a new statement done i THINK SOON, AS WE ARE NOW LOOKING AT POST 16(oops)

AgnesDiPesto · 28/07/2010 19:58

It just says from 5.here
It might just be my LEA that are cutting it for anyone either side - I'm not saying all LEA's will do the same - just try and get it in statement if possible
