Is it worth asking for a referral for Auditory Processing Disorder?

Hi, just a brief message as am work, I have been trying to post this for ages but PC at home on the blink. hoping for some advice please!

DS is now 10.
He had a speech delay, had SALT from 4-7, discharged from them at that time.
Referred by School to Ed Psych, Paed. in Y1 for concentration issues amongst other things.
Paed. told us he was dyslexic in 2008. ?? was he ADHD.
School (learning support) did tests in Spring 2009 and said he is NOT dyslexic.
Very low score for Auditory processing (he was aged 9, score came out at aged 5).
I asked DS to be referred back to SALT for language-based difficulties a year ago, this is only just happening now.
Saw a different Paed. who has referred ds for an EEG next week.
I asked new Paed. when I was in front of her to refer DS for auditory processing test - she says I need to put it in writing to her and tell her where I want to refer DS to! I would suggest GOSH?
School don't think it would make any difference to their working practices with DS if he is tested and diagnosed.

I know there is no 'cure', but it will be peace of mind for me, surely? I don't really want him labelled, but I find it soooo hard to keep patient, especially in the mornings, to get him to focus and have to chase him up for every little step.

I would really appreciate your thoughts

I would go for it, and I would also ask for GOSH. I don't see you have anything to lose.

Has the school got experience of APD? If not (which I would expect) how do they know it won't make any difference?

definately get a referral. You need to know. There is loads of 'best practices' school and you should do if he has APD....

Thank you - yes, I think I need to know too. and I feel so guilty for getting on his case sometimes in the mornings. Will get a letter off to Paed. this weekend, although she put a question-mark over PCT funding, suggesting I might not get a referral at all.
