How long was your dc on waiting list before assessment

For a social communications disorder?

My dd (12) was recommended for an assessment in October last year, I was told to expect a long wait, but no timeframe was given.

I think around 8 weeks ish for both of mine, they were assessed for ASD (which is a communication disorder). I think it depends what area you are in. The dd's assessments were done in sections (salt, pead and phyc) and took around a year altogether.

Could you chase it up, it seems a long time to wait to me.

It does seem long as yours only took 8 weeks, I didn't know what the average time was and wanted to find out before chasing/complaining.

13 months . Phone up and ask, as it varies so much from area to area. And never does any harm to double check they have received the referral.

I would chase it up. When I chased up our appointment was told it was in a 'backlog pile' but as I was on 'phone they would book it there & then! Expect that if I hadn't 'phoned it would still be in that pile

Thank you, will definitely follow up. Does it really take around a year to complete the assessment?
