Guidance required for my 8 year old son for schooling

Hi,
We are planning to relocate to London from India and I am looking for guidance on how can I get proper schooling with special attention for my 8 year old son, who is diagnosed as mild retardation with a low IQ of around 50.

Please help by providing procedures to get the school admission, different options available etc.

Hi there retardation isnt a phrase we use.

Your son has a learning difficulty and will get support with this learning difficulty in any school you choose.

Usually people look for property that is within the 'catchment' area of a school.

Once you know where you will be living if you are as I assume going to be sending your son to a state school you should contact the local area authority and explain to the 'pupil services' officer there the problems your son encounters,they will help and assist you to make the best choices,it may be in your sons best interests to attend a school that is specialised in SEN (special educational needs).

There is a place for everyone in this world and your son will find his regardless of his intellectual abilities.

There won't be a single body covering the whole of London, you'd be best gettignin contact with the relevant local council education department(s) and ask to speak to someone responsible for Special Needs provision. There are relatively few state special schools and you would not automatically get individual support for your son in a mainstream school straightaway, until he has arrived and been assessed. Alternatively you may be able to find an appropriate private school, depending on the nature and extent of his difficulties.
