playschemes run by special schools - getting funding for transport

Hi

Has anyone got a child at a special school that runs a holiday scheme (with the idea of providing continuity throughout the year, as opposed to a holiday scheme that just happens to run on the special school site).

If you receive transport funding in term time, have you been able to get this during the holidays too? Or is it not allowed because it's not considered 'educational', or because it's in addition to the set number of school weeks per year?

I guess we'd be thinking of it as 'respite' technically, in which case if the LEA uses the 'not educational' argument, should we be investigating funding from somewhere else? Without funding it wouldn't be possible.

I can't get any answer from the LEA yet as my child isn't at this special school at the moment - the transfer is currently being organised but hasn't been formalised, so the question's too theoretical for them. I'm interested in what other people have done
so that I know what angle it might be worth arguing from. Suspect it's a non-starter though

TIA

Mitsuko
