Here you'll find advice from parents and teachers on special needs education.

I have been asked to do something I vaguely disapprove of & I can't get out of it

You may (or may not) know I am a childminder
I like to think I am a good childminder (Last time OFSTED said I was)

I am registering for Nursery Care

I am being asked to write a 'Special Needs Policy'

I already have an equal concern policy, which admittedly needs a re-vamp but covers meeting the children's needs whatever they are.

I feel writing a SN Policy isn't very inclusive......but I will

I'm being a bit petty aren't I?

Surely you could make your SN policy inclusive. Could you rework your equal concern policy into a SN policy?? After all an SN policy is about meeting the needs of any child whatever that may be (which is exactly what you said you equal concern one was)

Yes sort of

I am being pressured to have an individual SN one which I think is wrong....maybe

I don't know if I'm making a fuss about nothing

The problem is that Inclusion/Equal Concern is such a big umbrella term - can include race and gender discrimination, English as an additional language, special educational needs and Gifted and Talented.

I don't see why you can't cover SEN within a general Inclusion Policy, but I know that at the school where I'm a governor, we have a general Inclusion (we treat all children with equal concern) Policy, plus an Equal Opps policy (race, age, sexual orientation and gender), plus a SEN Policy. At least that way you know you've covered all bases.

How's the chest? Better? If not - stop writing policies and get thee to the doctors!

KatyMac · 23/10/2008 16:22

Better (ish) Dr said chest is no more - but that it could take 2-3 weeks to get better

I am trying to reduce my policies, rather than increase them - but it is all to vague

Glad it's at least betterish.

Re policies - I have been going through all the policies that I should have access to/knowledge of as a Governor. So far I'm on Policy No 16 - and there are more to come. This is for a mid-sized Infant School. They multiply, I'm sure they do .

I know

But I'm on a quest to reduce mine & I will
