12yo daughter campaigning for severe autism & sensory crisis awareness in PSHE – any SEN parents/teachers have advice?

Hi everyone,
I’m posting here as a mum to two girls—my eldest is 12 (Daisy), and my youngest (Rosie) has complex, severe autism with very limited communication.

Living alongside Rosie has given Daisy a deep understanding of sensory crises, limited communication, and severe autism. Daisy noticed that while general neurodiversity is starting to be touched upon in some schools, the reality of severe autism, non-verbal needs, and sensory meltdowns is completely missing from the standard PSHE curriculum.

Because of this, Daisy decided to take action and set up an official UK Parliament Petition to mandate severe autism and sensory crisis education in PSHE classes nationwide.
We are trying to build momentum toward the 10,000 mark for a government response, but as SEN parents know, getting mainstream education to listen is an uphill battle!

Has anyone here successfully engaged their child’s school or PSHE lead on this issue? I’d love to hear how other SEN parents have navigated curriculum discussions with schools.

(Note: I’m aware of Mumsnet rules on links, so I have posted the direct Parliament link over on the Petitions Noticeboard for anyone who wishes to sign!)
