Remote autism assessment.. right to choose

Hello my ten year old son has his remote autism assessment this week. Just wondering what they do to asses? Been asked to give him 5 objects and basically leave him to it but worried he will get bored or anxious and not comply.
He is higher functioning and masks well but this causes really bad burn out. Worried they will say hes NT when mutiple professionals have identified neurodivergence.

The process varies from provider to provider.

The need for some items and leaving DS to it may be because they are going to do a version of the ADOS adapted for online. Some use the BOSA for virtual assessment.

As well as the tasks for DS, they are likely to ask for a history - pregnancy, developmental milestones, educational history, family history, any previous assessments/input from HCPs, etc. if they haven’t already. With questions for both you and DS on daily life - difficulties, strengths, support, etc. Depending on what you have already completed, there may be questionnaires to complete.

Yes i have a parent meeting with them the next day for questions on his milestones etc. Already done questionnaires and theyve got a lot of evidence from school too.

It’s completely understandable to feel worried, especially when he masks well. The assessment should consider your observations, his history, and input from other professionals, not just how he behaves in one short session.
