Hello all,
Please could anyone offer some advice? My 6y.o DS (ASD,ADHD,Development delay, Tourette’s) is very impulsive/destructive. We are having to use 2 stair gates on his bedroom door so that at night so he is safe and remains in his room. Tonight my DH and myself have discovered that he has figured out how to remove the top part of one of the stair gates and is now at risk of being able to roam the house at night unsupervised. For his safety it is imperative that he remains in his room. Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do instead of the 2 stair gates, or anyone we could go to for help/ advice?

Thanking you all in advance

A lock on his door

You could look at specialist beds. If you don’t want to go down that route, you could look at an alarm that alerts you to DS leaving his room (or even a pressure mat(s) to alert you when he gets out of bed).

Has DS had a home OT assessment?
