Technology recommendations for a Year 10 student with SEN literacy needs

Any recommendations of technology to help a soon to be year 10 student with reading and writing? Handwriting and spelling are big issues, so a simple way of recording work is needed. Reading is a barrier to learning (mid primary level). Something simple to use, with as natural a sounding voice as possible, and that can read hard copies as well as electronic text.

Funding is available, so effectiveness and ease of use is more important than cost.

There’s Clicker sentences Crick Software or the secondary version of this docs plus.
Dragon Software will type as he speaks. Lots of electronic reading pens out there.
Is there anyone on the SEN support team for your LA who can give bespoke advice?

Have you considered an assistive tech assessment? If the funding available is via an EHCP, for example, an assessment can also be funded.

As well as Dragon, you could look at Texthelp Read&Write. You will also see Texthelp now called Everway sometimes after they merged.

You could then look at a reading pen, too.

I’m not sure there is a product that will read on-screen text and hard copies without first turning the hard copies into on-screen version.
