Autism pathway and behaviour: sent back to school from trip

My child was sent back to school from a school trip today for swearing, making hand gestures, exposing himself and annoying other children in the toilets.

When I got home, the Speech and language assessment letter was sat in the letterbox.

We’ve still not had a SENCO meeting, but school have now requested we go in to discuss behaviour.

Any advice anyone can offer? I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

How old is DS? What support is the school providing? What has already been tried but hasn’t worked? What agencies have been asked for advice? Does DS have an EHCP?

DS is 6. We’ve had the initial assessment by paeds and received the speech and language referral today (after submitting a load of info.

DS has an IEP, but it is for his gross motor delay.

Ive been asking for a SENCO meeting for 2 years - the initial referral was made by nursery. School have ignored these requests.

No specific behaviour strategies have been tried in school.

We have also had contact with the Enurse regarding toileting.

He had been seen by audiology, ophthalmologist, physiotherapist and currently wears orthotics.

Request the SENCO is part of the meeting. If you are refused a meeting with the SENCO, go to the headteacher. Follow up all verbal conversations with emails to create a paper trail. The school should be providing support.

Request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

I’d ask for a copy of his behaviour management plan and the individual risk assessment they did for him for the trip.
As PP has said contact the head and possibly the SEN Governor.
School staff aren’t following the correct procedures. It sounds like they don’t really want him I’m sorry to say.
If Nursery made the initial referrals things really should have moved on by now.
