Ehcp- nappies and intimate care.

We have an ehcp and are currently in b f and I appeal. My child is having tests done for bowel issues but the likely diagnosis will be toddler/functional diarrhea. We've just been triaged for continence team as well, as child still in nappy with suspected introception issues so not aware they need the toilet at all. Unfortunately there looks to be a long wait list for this service. We have a private ot booked for this month and are hoping they will confirm interoception is the issue in report.

My question is the EHCP currently does not state my child is in nappies or anything to do with the intimate care. Where can I get a professional report for this while we wait for the continence appointment? Can I take all the evidence/information to my GP and ask they write something in regards to needs and provisions? Also what should the provisions look like? Is there anyone who has a child still in nappies that can share what provision they have in their EHCP for this?

Thanks

If DC is under paeds (separate to the continence service), you can use evidence from them. Or the GP or HV/school nursing service (depending on age). Information from the current setting can also be used. OT can comment too.

Needs and provision depend on the individual child and their evidence. Not all DC who are not toilet trained have the same needs, require the same provision or have the same evidence, so me telling you what is written in DS1’s EHCP won’t help you.

We don't have any evidence from the developemental paediatrician, unfortunately I was too focused on other things at the 2 appointments we've had and we aren't due to see them again for another 6 months. The paediatrician who is dealing with the bowel issues wouldn't put anything in their report annoyingly. Child is also currently not in a setting, was made to leave nursery by LA due to age but they have neglected to sort anything since then(that's a seperate battle).

I'll see what the OT can write for me and then I guess ask the gp to fill the gaps. I do think they will probably ask what we want/need written and I'm struggling to know what should be put. Child has no indication of need and often will not tell you after either/isn't aware they've been. Obviously they will need nappy changes and unfortunately sometimes a clothing change will be necessary too.

If DC was previously in nursery, do you have anything from when DC was in nursery?

Have you made contact with the school nursing service? Also called to 0-19/25 service in some areas. DC don’t need to be in a school to be in contact with them.

If DC is compulsory school age and the LA is failing to provide a suitable full-time education, have you gone down the pre-action letter route? Same for anything detailed, specified and quantified in F? (If there is anything detailed, specified and quantified in F and it isn’t all vague and woolly.)
