My DD (3) received her ASD diagnosis this week. We are in the assessment stage of applying for an EHCP for her, as she is due to start school in September.

Can I ask you all what you wish you had known at the start of your ASD journeys with your children? Are there any books that I can read to help me understand her and her needs better. Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks everyone!

If you are going through the EHCNA process at the moment, the best thing you could do is learn about SEN law. IPSEA and SOSSEN’s websites and the SENCOP are good starting points.

Have you had the full report yet? Ours came with lots of book recommendations etc. I can't recommend anything specifically for autism as our daughter has always had very explosive behaviour so those were the kinds of books we needed. The Autistic Girls' Network would be a good place to start for resources.
