Manchester secondaries for AuDHDer (who has been school refusing since Y1)

Hi I’m not feeling optimistic there is a secondary out there for my 9 year old, classic “SEND in-betweener.”
Only diagnosed last year, but now in year 5 with a lot of support. She is not coping socially or academically.(Always hovered around “meeting expectations” academically in the past).

We may apply for an EHC assessment in Jan but it will be an uphill battle to get a plan (I used to mediate EHCP disputes pre DC so have an idea.)!

Her anxiety is acute, we have been v worried about her mental health.

What level of need do resource bases in high schools cater for? Aware an EHcP required for that. Is there any mainstream that’s nurturing with great SEND?

We would look into moving to Stockport or anywhere quite frankly but feel this is just a unicorn school we need (as so many others do).
Anyway thanks for any potential recommendations!

I know someone who has been happy with Saint Paul’s.

If you get an EHCP or can afford independent fees, you could look at Holme Hall school. I know they can be inclusive depending on the child’s presentation.

RPs vary. The cohorts they cater for and how they run/are set up also vary somewhat from RP to RP.

You may have to appeal, many do, but from your post, it absolutely is possible to get an EHCP for the presentation you describe.

With ^this in mind, DD is highly likely to need an EHCP going forward.

Thanks so much for responding @2x4greenbrick. I know of St Paul's but hadn't thought about it. Never heard of Holme Hall, but I will have a look.

I think we need to get a move on with the EHCP application. I am just shifting from a mindset where no one listened to me and she presented very "mainstream" to where we currently are (can no longer mask).

I need to get visiting some more schools!

Not St Paul's.
Didsbury high, the Barlow, Levenshulme girls, Trinity.

Stretford Grammar if she would pass 11+
