What happens if you don’t go to annual review?

What happens if I do not attend my child’s annual review? I know it goes ahead but can I contribute via written response (I have not been asked my views not sure if this is correct as first post 16 review). Would I get a chance to appeal/disagree with any decisions made?

I have specific reasons for not attending and there is a formal complaint and appeal in process anyway.

The AR meeting is only one part of the AR process.

You/DC can still share your views in writing even if you don’t attend the meeting. Updated advice and information should be circulated at least 2 weeks prior to the AR meeting. You will still get the opportunity to make representations in response to the amendment notice. Once the phase transfer EHCP is finalised, you will still get the right of appeal.

You could as your local sendiass officer to attend on your behalf. Pass your views to them and ask them to report back. As previous poster said they should send for your views anyway.

Annual review administrator here! It’s fine not to attend, send your apologies together with written parent views if you wish them to be considered. But please let them know you aren’t attending rather than just not turning up. There is no requirement to attend but it is strongly recommended - you are the advocate for your child.

Be careful with SENDIASS. Some are good but too many repeat the LA’s unlawful policies.

This isn’t generally how SENDIASS work, they will go with parents to meetings but not on behalf of them.

In some areas SENDIASS will attend on behalf of parents without parents present.

Is your DC attending and are they able to contribute effectively to the meeting without you?
Is there an advocate who can attend with them (another relative, friend's parent)?
