Here's your son's IEP. Surprise!

Is it unreasonable that we were emailed an independent education plan (IEP) for my son (6 years old) out of the blue with no heads up. Even though I'd been making small talk with the SENCO just a few days before. I find it slightly off. This is his first one although he has been taking part in some small group work since year 1.

The SENCO should have discussed it with you. It is good practice to meet with parents. Although DS shouldn’t have had an IEP last year by the sound of it.

It's not best practice to just spring it on you, but it's brilliant that he's been involved in so much provision already.
