My DS (9) hasn’t yet been diagnosed but really struggles socially, particularly with rigid thinking, inability to bend or flex rules and having to be precise at all times and he can be quite unforgiving if others don’t meet his standards. He really struggles with anything deeper than very superficial friendships and it’s really hard to find any resources to help him. His understanding is very good and intellectually he can see how his behaviours aren’t always helpful yet he struggles to adjust them.
We’ve just started the SEN pathway at school so we are at the very beginning of our journey and I am a bit lost. It’s heartbreaking seeing him struggle and be left out of things. I’ve seen social stories but the ones I have found seem aimed at either younger children or those who need more support in understanding. Does anyone have any recommendations for things we could do to help?
