Hi all, looking for some feedback on those that have sen swimming lessons. Do you get rewards from swim organisations such as sta levels? I know they do octopus and star fish things like that. For context ds attends lessons, he's asd and lessons are classed as sen lessons but despite doing well has received no award after attending for a considerable time and can swim unaided. The rest of pool are for neurotypical dc who receive certificates and badges and rewards and im getting disheartened at the lack of rewards for ds?

He has got a reward - he can swim unaided! That's huge!

Does he care about the badges?

Surely this depends on the type of lessons booked/the provider provides and the individual child’s needs.

Although I wouldn’t mention everyone in the mainstream lessons is neurotypical because that is unlikely. Not all ND DC need SEN swimming lessons.

My son does 1:1 SEN lessons and they give certificates against their own curriculum milestones (eg diving and resurfacing, floating unaided, jumping in) every term.

I think it's worth asking if he can be assessed against the "mainstream" curriculum or if they might think about creating a list of achievements that children in the SEN lessons could get rewards for.
