DS has just been diagnosed with autism and inattentive ADHD on the back of increasing struggles which have been particularly evident since year 7. He’s now in year 10. He masks significantly at school so from school’s perspective, they haven’t had any concerns as he’s making satisfactory progress academically. He is also very musical. The SEN lead was very disinterested when we approached him last term with our concerns - he simply suggested DS attend lunch time ‘drop in’ sessions without speaking to either him or us about what the concerns were. We are now in receipt of a draft copy of the report and recommendations from the assessment but just feeling quite overwhelmed by it all and how best to navigate the next steps. There’s a lot to take on board. Mindful that time is not on our side in terms of reasonable adjustments being put in place in time for GCSEs. Looking for some gentle guidance and tips at what is a challenging time for us as a family. Thank you 🙏🏻

Request a meeting with the SENCO. If they brush you off, escalate the matter higher up.

If you have the email addresses of DS’s teachers, contact them directly.
