Visually impaired teenager options

Looking for experiential advice really - Son is 16 and due to take GCSEs at a local state school. He has a hereditary visual impairment which is progressive and rare - he is expected to lose all sight by 20 years approx. He has an EHCP and with the school's support, is starting to visit colleges which are geared up for students with additional needs. Do any parents have any advice to offer or any experience of residential options for teenagers with visual impairments who are preparing for young adulthood?

Depending on DS’s needs and what he wants to study, you could look at The Royal National College for the Blind in Herefordshire, Dorton College in Bromley, Sense College in Leicestershire and New College in Worcestershire. I am sure there are other possibilities. DS’s QTVI may have some suggestions.
