My ds is in year 10 and 15 years old. She was born at 29+5 and had a stroke when she was 6 months old that led to right sided weakness and hemiplegia. She has done amazingly well and she is in mainstream school and has kept with her peers until recently.
We understood that challenges might appear through her development. She is really struggling with her studies. She is struggling with her writing - have seen an occupational therapist. Her summer report was stark that there is an issue. Teachers mentioned that she is having processing issues and needs support to understand more complex ideas. Maths and sciences are really challenging for her. She has started to say how stupid she is and giving up on school. She has a twin and older brother, which makes it more difficult as she is comparing herself to them. They are both high academic.
I have sent a note to the school. I have never discussed her history with the school though i did put it in her admission documents as there were never any concerns. Knowing how stretched schools are. What can I expect from them? Any suggestions of support we can get for her?
It was mentioned that she might be able to type for her exams. Any other words of support or encouragement?
Not sure what I really am looking for. Just feeling so awful that we did see it sooner and get her help.
