ASD assessment via Right to Choose pathway

Our 8 year old has been referred via school, but we have been told it will be 2-3 years before he gets his assessment with the local team. I have now become aware of Right to Choose. Does anyone know if we can leave the list we have been added to, and ask our Gp to refer us to a private clinic via this route? I know we could if we had not already been referred, but I was unaware of this option at the time.

TIA

The right to choose is at the point of referral. If you have already been referred you will have to speak to your GP/school to see if they will agree to refer you elsewhere.

@Noidea2024 My was referred to the NHS waiting list for an ASD assessment and we were advised there would be an 18-24 month wait to be seen.

A few weeks later, I asked the GP to refer her to a private provider’s list via Right to Choose and she did this by completing a referral form and I also had to complete a form.
