14 year olds and Kung Fu Panda

DS1, 14, is autistic and in mainstream school, a very selective one at that. While socially the current school is vastly better for him than primary, he has very few friends (1).

We are encouraging him to widen his circle and have suggested he tries inviting other boys to the cinema. He mentioned he wants to see Kung Fu Panda 4, and while it is a lovely franchise, I am worried he might be teased by his school mates if it gets out he wants to go and see a film aimed at primary school children. Am I overthinking this? Do neurotypical 14 year olds go to the cinema to see cartoons?

if they are friends
close enough to go to the cinema together
then any comment against seeing the film would surely be jokey and affectionate?

I don’t think Kung Fu Panda 4 would be the first choice for many teen boys (I have 3 but all have additional needs) but some would watch it if a group was going. Sadly, I think you are right that it could attract some unwanted comments too though.
