ADHD in girls - Medikinet

Hi, my daughter is 10 and has ADHD and Dyslexia. She has suffered mood swings/low mood. She has recently started Medikinet, started at 5mg then up to 20mg but that made her feel sad so we are giving her 15mg at the moment. School have seen a drastic improvement in her concentration but she still has extreme mood swings at home in the morning and evening. Bedtime is the worst with screaming, hitting out etc. I was hoping her mood would improve with the medication but not seen it yet. Was wondering what experience others have had with these stimulants and mood?

We found that DD was pretty horrible for the first hour or so after her meds wore off (and starving and exhausted and hyper at the same time).

6 months on, it's totally settled down and she's fine. She's on 20g Equasym XR. I can tell if she ever forgets her meds though as she's extremely argumentative and every little thing is as if the world is ending.

Medikinet is designed for the German school day, so you get a much bigger dose initially and a smaller taper. This isn't ideal for the UK's longer days, so you might get on better with a different brand with a smaller initial dose.

We do have 10mg Tranquilyn IR top ups which I used to damp the worst of the meltdowns when DD was getting used to the meds.

She does take melatonin in order to sleep, so you could find that tricky if you use an IR dose later in the day.
