School for ASC girl in the North

DD is in mainstream primary school and we now need to start thinking about secondary. She is autistic. Bright, struggles socially.

Is there any school on the Wirral or Liverpool or Cheshire that is nurturing and deals with bright girls and has high academic expectations.

State or independent, happy with either.

Are you looking for mainstream or special schools?

MabelsBeats · 08/02/2024 13:27

Both. I would like her to be in mainstream, I get the impression from her current school that they feel that she would be better in a special school for seniors.

In that case West Kirby and Rossendale are worth looking at.

MabelsBeats · 08/02/2024 14:52

Thank you. West Kirby would be closest, but their GCSE results are not in line with what she’d be aiming for. I am finding it really challenging to find anywhere that is for kids who should be getting good GCSEs but are struggling in mainstream.

Rather than just looking at GCSE results, look at what can be offered. The problem with only looking at GCSE results is that in SS the cohorts are small and variable year to year.

Would boarding be an option?

Have you considered EOTAS?

MabelsBeats · 08/02/2024 16:33

Boarding is an option, as is EOTAS.

I try to see the GCSEs in the round, but honestly I want her to be in with a peer group that is like her.

If boarding is an option you could also look at Alderwasley Hall and Unsted Park. Both send DC to university including the latter sending a pupil onto a medical degree within the last few years.

Thank you, these look good, Alderwasley Hall especially looks like it might suit, I will get in touch with them.

Hello. Me again. Thanks for the advice so far.

So DD is going in for a mainstream private school on the Wirral. I feel it may be rather conformist, and not set up for her needs. Exam next month.

Any views on St David’s College in Llandudno or Abbey Gate College in Chester?
