Can anyone advise me if some alternative schooling options? Ds is 6, currently in reception for a second year and has an EHCP. He has a rare chromosomal deletion which has resulted in nearly global delay and cognitive imparement.
My issue is that I have triggered an annual review of his ehcp with the plan of moving him to a special school. I've then gone and visited 2 of the three and was (naively) surprised by the average ability of the kids, the schools are very loud and chaotic and a lot of focus in early years is on basic needs, toileting and eating which he is decent at already.nearly all the children ds age were non verbal and as ds already has a speech delay in afraid this will not help his development.
While ds struggles academically (3 years behind) and has his speech issues he is learning just not keeping up and his teachers have warned me he will struggle in year one and will need an alternative curriculum. They were encouraging me to move to special school but the special schools were hinting that he isn't suitable for them and other higher needs children are more likely to get the places.
I'm scared that he will be miserable in either school. I don't want to home school but I'm thinking I may not have a choice in a year or two. What choices do I have?
