Hi all, my son is 2.5 years old and believed to be on the spectrum. We have already had a SOGS assessment and now we have a paeds appointment on Monday!

What shall I expect? I live in Staffordshire I know it varies from different regions.

please tell me what happened for your little ones? I’m hoping he gets referred to the autism pathway at a minimum

I can’t comment on your specific area. But it is likely to include a history covering pregnancy, birth, DS’s development until now, family history, what concerns you have, strengths. It may include a physical examination.

Ours was a bit older (4) but basically what @OvertakenByLego said.

They did a hearing test (ruling out him ignoring instructions could have been because he was deaf! He's not deaf but made sense they at least checked :-) )

If memory serves they had a play person come and play some lego and have a chat with him.

They had him draw some pictures but I guess at 2 1/2 that wouldn't happen.

Basically the point of it is to rule out certain things (making sure the obvious your child isn't in fact deaf, or blind, or have some other physical impairment that could be causing their challenges) and then propose an appropriate course of diagnosis.

Off the back of ours son was referred for ADHD and ASD assessments.

@KingsHeath53 what happened after you were referred for an assessment? Did you just have one autism assessment or more? How long did it take? Did you ever see a paediatrician again?
