I'm bioplar and it's hard to cope with my autistic son

I'm finding my mental health with bioplar is getting worse. My autistic son is 8, I'm finding it hard to cope, he isn't sleeping and his behaviour is hard to control. He's so stubborn. Iv tried everything for him to finally go to sleep at bedtime. But nothings worked, Iv stressed to doctors I'm struggling to cope if they can give him melatonin to help him sleep. I'm just at my wits end, I'm not sure how much longer I can cope.

Have you had social care assessments? An assessment by the disabled children’s team for DS and a carer’s assessment for you. Depending on your own needs you may want to ask for an assessment of your own needs too.

Does DS have an EHCP?

Has melatonin been prescribed? If not, push for that. If it has but it isn’t helping there are other options that can be tried.

I haven't, but that's something I will look into.

He has an echp in place. However being a single mother, and struggling with my own mental health with bioplar, I feel like I'm failing. In desperate need of a rest bite. Iv asked the doctor for melatonin, just so my child can rest better in the evenings, so I can at least relax. I find myself getting very frustrated and low, it's been 2 weeks now, since my son slept probably in his tight routine.

On their website Contact have model letters you can use to request social care assessments.

Request an early review of the EHCP as it needs amending to support DS better. On their website ISPEA have a model letter you can use.

I know you have asked the Dr for melatonin, but has it actually been prescribed?

No he hasn't been prescribed yet. It's a waiting game, whether is gets excepted by paediatrician. I'm gunna keep calling for update.
His next review is in July

I would chase the paed. If they aren’t going to prescribe request a referral to a sleep clinic.
