SEND - cost for a scribe at independent school

We are considering moving our dyslexic DS from a state secondary to a (non specialist) independent secondary - for various reasons.

Does anyone know what the cost of having a scribe for exams? I am assuming we would have to pay for it at the independent sch as he does not have an EHCP and the option of a scribe has only just been brought up by the current school - I'm not 100% sure he will need or want it, but just want to be aware of the cost. Google has not been helpful...

I can’t help with the cost. I imagine it varies widely school to school and dependent on the exam. However, have you considered speech recognition software? Some DC find it easier.

@JustKeepBuilding tha is for the reply. No I haven’t although I’m pretty sure he has and does use some dictation software for his homework where he can. He’s not shy about finding a work around. The idea of a scribe for assessments has only just been put forwards though so he hasn’t had a chance to even try it yet.

Just over £11 per hr at my boys independent mainstream senior school to scribe for sen children - the school are currently trying to recruit with a zero hr contract - that's what they are advertising.

What a scribe is paid generally won’t be the whole cost as there are costs associated with the access arrangement other than the scribe’s wage.

Our main sixth form college pays £14 per hour for a scribe (this was pre-Covid). It may have gone up, though probably not. I would imagine £11 on a zero hours would be hard to recruit for but many places will use their bank of support casuals/invigilators and scribing will generally pay more than just invigilating

Thanks I’m interested in the cost to a parent to pay via the school in the independent sector. It isn’t a published price and as yet we don’t know if he will need/take to one. So just trying to gauge the potential cost if we move him.
