13 year old ADHD diognosis - now what?

My son has just been diognosed, I was pretty shocked to be honest.

we got the assessment due to a chaotic school year in year 8. Year 9 and huge improvements. He is also definitely not hyper. Never loses things etc so I just wasn't convinced

the report from his teachers input I found very upsetting 'shows no empathy when others hurt themselves' amongst other comments. He sounds like not a very nice boy!

i do not want to give him the medication but what do we do now?

Why don't you want to give him the medication ?

The thing about no empathy is an example of the traits that contribute to the diagnosis- it's not about making your son sound unpleasant.

Can you speak to someone about the outcome to get more understanding yourself before moving forward - sounds like it might help. ?

what is the medication for as he isn't hyper? He is on other medication for another issue (gastro) so just a little wary.

he does have empathy - he feels sorry for homeless people on the street etc and is very caring - the comments were from teachers who have only known him since September so just not sure if that part is even accurate.
