Urgent advice re EHCP / Private OT report wording please.

Can anyone help with the wording of support needed for my DS in the report by the OT. She feels he needs a full time 1-2-1 TA. How should this be worded. It just say a 1-2-1 TA in school who is trained in Autism. Then it goes in to state what support the TA needs to provide. I’m guessing this isn’t specific enough. Should it say for all lessons, or full time, or a number of hours?

As it is it’s too vague. It needs to quantify the 1:1 support. Whether that’s full time or not depends on DS’s needs. The training also needs specifying. If this is an independent OT I would expect them to know this. Does the OT have experience of writing Tribunal standard reports?

Not sure she does do tribunal work. Could you give me an example of the way “training in Autism” could be specified. The report cost was a lot for me so I want to make the most of it before it’s finalised.

Unfortunately if the OT doesn’t write tribunal standard reports you may find the report is not helpful. They should not be writing a woolly and vague report and should know it needs to be detailed, specified and quantified.

The training course(s) needs to be specified, what training course or qualifications depends on DD’s needs but could for example be one of the autism education trust’s courses.

Ask her to specify what tasks he needs 1:1 support with. That will feed in to the assessment as to how long / how often he needs support.

The report should also specify that the support must be dedicated to your child, i.e it can't be shared with others.

Thanks guys, I missed these replies earlier sorry. She made various changes for me, so hopefully we’ll get somewhere with the EHCP process now.
