I have concerns that my son has behavioural issues, possibly adhd (only from my own reading)

I have no idea what to do about it.

Do I speak to the GP or the school first? Both?

I've Always read advice that says you will get further with a referral for this type of thing if the school are on board and supportive. How do I show the GP they are agreeing with me? Do I ask for a letter or a report?

I'm clueless here and in real need of support, as is my son.

Speak to both the school and GP.

For an ADHD diagnosis difficulties usually have to be present in 2 setting, which is why referrals usually get further if school are supportive, but it is possible even if they aren’t.

Some GPs would take your word that the school support a referral, others would want to see e.g. a SEN plan or a letter, others will try to fob you off with get school to refer (in some areas schools can refer, in others they can’t).

In my local authority it is schools that refer and not GPs, apparently they are too busy!
