My son is in year 3 goes to state mainstream school and academically good. He has EHCP
What benefit from EHCP if we go to independent schools?

Funding of fees and SEN support, access to therapies and provision in excess of what is otherwise typically available.

Being able to ensure DS receives all the provision required, and enforce the provision if necessary.

Provision up to 25 if necessary.

As DS gets older some LAs limit their independent travel training offer to those with EHCPs.

Hi AReallyUsefulEngine, we have EHCP from the last 3 years, if we move to independent school and LA,

  1. Do the LA still release funds to independent school?
  2. After 6 years if we move back to state school do we need to apply EHCP again ?

If the independent school is named in the EHCP the LA pay the fees and SEN support.

If the LA believe another school can meet needs and name another school, some LAs will come to an agreement whereby parents pay the fees and they pay the SEN support. Although other LAs will say you are making suitable alternative arrangements thereby relieving them of their duties and refuse to pay either, but you could appeal.

The EHCP won’t cease just because a pupil attends an independent school.

If you move LA, the new LA will review and potentially reassess, amend or cease to maintain.

We thought of moving LA and moving independent school.
1.How to ask LA to pay for the support, so that we can pay the fee only

  1. I mean first move LA and ask ? Or Ask them first then move LA

You ask when discussing placements. I think you have asked 2 before and been told only you can decide, both have advantages and risks.
