I can't find any of my paperwork from when we applied, but does anyone know the offer date for those with EHCP? I know mainstream find out 1st March, but I vaguely remember someone saying something about January?

LAs must finalise EHCPs by 15th February.

Thanks for posting OP as I had the same question.

If they finalise on the 15th February, is it possible to find out earlier? I had heard people mention finding out in January, but maybe this is what's happened in previous years?

Thanks

During phase transfer year to secondary school most LAs won’t confirm what school will be named prior to finalising.

Thank you for confirming. It will be a nervous wait until the 15th!

15th Feb is the latest LA must confirm by. If there is agreement before that date some LAs will issue final EHCPs ahead of that date... indeed, where I work we've had a number of confirmations of where our EHCP pupils will go,over the Christmas break. Fingers crossed.

Thank you. Ahh I'm so anxious. We've only put one choice for DS as I was very unimpressed with every other setting 😳. So keeping everything crossed. The SENCO at his mainstream primary school says they've never had problems getting children in there before, but it still weighs on your mind doesn't it.

You only need to state one preference, and unless wholly independent the LA must name it unless they can prove:

  • The setting is unsuitable for the age, ability, aptitude or special educational needs (“SEN”) of the child or young person; or
  • The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the provision of efficient education for others; or
  • The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the efficient use of resources.

Some LAs ask parents for 2/3/4/5/6 choices but parents do not have to give more than one.

Have you are in an unusual LA, many leave it to the last minute, or even breach.
