Considering both Bruern and Bredon for my son - he is autistic and not dyslexic. Does anyone have any experience of having an autistic son in either school that they could share please?

Especially looking for feedback on how nurturing they are for children with low self confidence, and also what is on offer during unstructured times such as break and lunchtimes. Thanks

Hi Pineapplespineapples

We are working with both schools, we should find out if we have any offers for our DS within the week. Our DS loved his stays at both schools. To the best of my knowledge the focus for both is Dyslexia. Bruern is exclusively a boys Dyslexia specialist school and some pupils also have Dyspraxia. I would speak to both admin offices to be sure they are the right schools for you. They have slightly different entrance criteria. Bruern is more a Public School than Bredon. Bredon is moving back to its roots as a school that focuses on education for Dyslexic pupils. Very different but both very special in their own way.

Good luck with your search. Do speck to the Admissions officers as soon as you can. The CReSTeD website will tell you which school cater for your son's needs.

From a nurturing perspective, everything we have seen is amazing. Yes absolutely they both avoid causing anxiety and play to the childs strengths.

We are considering Appleford and Bredon for my daughter. Does anyone have any more feedback or thoughts on either school?

Bredon won’t take your child unless the learning need is dyslexia. They are not interested in any other SEN.

Bredon also told us in October 21 that they no longer accept any SEND apart from Dyslexia. Their position as that they were 'reverting to their roots as a school for dyslexic children'. Their own policy statement. We too received an offer but for a Dyslexic child. They have obviously changed their policy in the past few weeks.
In the end we stayed more local and selected Bruern as it involved 4 nights away not 5.
Good luck, it is a tough decision but your child will know where they feel happiest
