Our son just went to secondary school with support. He is cognitively together but struggles with semh due to a previous encephalitis infection. We have paid privately for therapy (play/relaxation/family), social skills, neuropsychological testing, educational testing. We also sat through Triple P and Parent Training. He is at level 4 camhs and is currently trialling Medikinet (not working). We manage reasonably well at home. He is much calmer and able to cope. School is another matter. He is disruptive, rude, makes noises etc. but not all the time. He is mainstreamed. We homeschooled him for a while, and then he went part-time in primary. He wants to be in school, but he turns into a 'demon' (their words). I cannot work due to to having to engage with school or pick him up constantly. It is destroying our marriage and affecting our other child, who does very well at school. We are thinking of moving to England to get a special school placement, or can we pay privately or is there something else? Please help us.

What country are you in now? If it's one of the other Home Nations they have similar systems to England and EHCPs for getting a special school place and also for providing education to those out of school, you don't need to electively home educate.

Many special schools don't allow parents to self fund, many in England require an EHCP, and even if you did self fund a comprehensive SEMH specialist placement is expensive.
