My 27mo just been assessed and they suspect this. Just wondering what others experiences have been. I know everyone's different :)

We were given this diagnosis just before DS turned 3. He wasn’t speaking at all and mainly ignored other people, didn’t respond to his name. Not motivated by praise or displeasure. Unable to copy. The Dr thought it almost certain he had ASD but he had no sensory issues and wasn’t rigid in his behaviour so they couldn’t give him that diagnosis.

I couldn’t find any info about SCD so mainly read up on ASD.

In our case DS is very unusual in that his diagnosis has now changed. At age 4 he had a massive spurt in his social development and started to become interested in people. His understanding came on leaps and bounds and is now age appropriate. He still couldn’t talk but his diagnosis of SCD has now been replaced with one of severe verbal dyspraxia. I think this was either co-morbid or caused by his lack of interest in people as a baby, meaning he didn’t develop the motor movement associated with early speech sounds. After intensive speech therapy he can now speak and mostly br understood at age 7. The specialists agree that the SCD diagnosis is no longer appropriate. I don’t know how common it is to change diagnosis. I did agree with the diagnosis when it was given.
