Does anyone have any knowledge of P scales please?

Hi,Have just recieved DS's proposed statement.
Great news ,hopefully know he will get the help he needs.

Hewas in year 1 when the statement was acessed.

It gives results of P scales at key stage 1 level for maths and english but don't understand the system.

Could someone advise please.

P scales means pre-level, ie before level 1. IIRC they go up to P8, then into 1C. Have no idea how to do links but try looking on the QCA website or a teacher website such as teacher net; they may tell you what the pscales actually are.

Working towars level 1. they are subdivided so that your child's progress can be accuratly measured. Some LEAs use slighly different scemes that also cover more purely behavioural issues as well.

martianbishop-to be honest am completly confused.
Have found a few sites explaining P scales but still no wiser.

My DS has selective mutism so therefore does not talk in school and so assessing his reading is not possible.
He also has a phonological disorder.

They gave scores for english and maths.

English being hard to assess.Writing possibly P7/P8.
Maths 1C

If anyone can explain this it would be much appreciated.

Hi thats not bad with p scales the highest is p8 and the lowest p1.After p8 comes level one.Urs childs are similar to my asd sons.Ive just put in a parental referral for assesment for a staement to my lea and awaiting if they will go ahead.I do have mediac
al,salt and school backing so hope it will.My son is eight and waited a very long time for this.

P8 is very good for P levels.
I have lots of experience with them and basically what everyone has said is right they are the levels leading up to the national curriculum levels.
Children working at Levels P1-3 are ususally at very early developmental levels and often have multiple disibilities.
Those within the P4-6 levels tend to be within the SLD range and above this MLD.

It's all a bit of of a minefield.

Now just need to sit down at the weekend and go through the statement and check everything is in accordance with DS's needs.

They don't make it easy do they?

We have been very fortunate in getting a statement first time after applying and it has come through rather quickly as well so I have been told.

I read on here all the time it can depend on what area you live in as to the success of getting a statement ,that's all wrong.
There should be special funding for all schools in all areas.

I totally agree with you sunflower but everything is a postcode lottery and a fight where funding is concerned.
