Priory Lodge School - corona provision

DS is a vulnerable 13 year old, with quite a lot of complex problems on top of his autism. He has an EHCP and attends Priory Lodge School.

The latest OFSTED for the school says fees are around £65k to £70k per pupil per year.

I know corona virus is new unchartered territory for everyone, but I am horrified by the schools plans.

All they are offering for the next 3 months is access to a Google Drive of documents, and someone will mark any work that is emailed in. (While the school site is still open only, as no capacity for staff to access systems from home.)

There is no daily email saying what needs to be done that day (like DD has from her State Primary School).

There is also no offering of Google Classroom or and similar set up, to have a virtual lesson. They apparently can't get a Google Classroom subscription approved.

None of the staff can email or phone in remotely. So when the school closes, that is it. We won't hear from anyone "until this is all over" according to the latest update.

I realise provision is going to need to be cut back significantly, but I am shocked by this.

Your LA is ultimately responsible for securing the provision in the EHCP, so if the school is not doing it, the LA needs to secure it by other means.

I was under the impression that schools will remain open for children with SEND EHCP and vulnerable.

Is there any particular reason they are not offering a place for your child?

Is it a s41 school? If so, it doesn't have a choice about admitting children.

In any event you need to contact your local authority. I doubt that they will be keen on paying thousands for SEN provision that the school is not supplying.

Contact your caseworker at the LA. I am sure they will be very interested to hear this.

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier. A lot more is happening now for support and lock down teaching - the situation post Easter holidays is much better.

Hi ya
We have been offered a assessment at this school but I declined as I assumed the children would still be attending.
